Dar’s story began in 1971, when a young art student working on a project about lighting for the home realised how little choice and modern design there was. He started making handwoven lampshades in a spare bedroom and delivering them himself in a small van – getting to know his customers and what they were really looking for. That focus on design, quality materials and service still underpins the business today.
Dar is still a family company. Its design team travels to international design shows and follows fashion, material and interior trends, turning them into fittings that bring a fresh look to any home, inside and out, whatever the budget. Every product is made to international safety standards, and the company has held ISO 9001 quality accreditation since 2016.
The range is broad: cluster and bar pendants for kitchen islands, statement feature pendants, flush and semi-flush ceiling lights, matching wall lights, table and floor lamps, outdoor lighting and one of the largest collections of lamp shades we stock. Dar is also the licensed designer and manufacturer of the official Laura Ashley lighting collection.
Yes. Many Dar ranges include a pendant, semi-flush ceiling light, wall light and lamp in the same finish, so you can coordinate a whole room. Search for the range name to see every matching piece.
It depends on the fitting. Integrated LED models come with the light source built in; others take a standard lamp such as E27, E14 or G9. Each product page shows exactly what is included, and we stock compatible bulbs.
Yes. Dar makes a large range of shades sold on their own, so you can pair a base or pendant with the shade size, fabric and colour you prefer.
